  • Since April 2007, HIC has been involved in a period of transition. After four years of excellence, Enrique Ortiz will end his service as HIC´s President.
  • After six weeks of nominations, a single presidential candidate was selected by the participating members: Davinder Lamba of the Mazingira Institute (Kenya). You can see his proposal for HIC by clicking here.
  • The electoral calendar established by the Electoral Committee indicates that the Coalition has entered the voting phase, in which all HIC members can vote to validate the candidature of Davinder Lamba or oppose it.
  • The voting period began the 25th of June and will continue until the 23rd of July. You can send your votes to any one of the electoral committee representatives (click here to see their contact information) or you can send them to hicelections@hic-net.org

  • Coming Soon: A special section of our website dedicated to the campaign.
  • Background: HIC’s international campaign oct2007-jan2008 is under way.  Our objective is to have the planning process that is participatory and transparent.
  • Guidance: Members of the international campaign team are from distinct areas of the globe, and we urge you to become involved in the planning process either internationally or regionally.  Initial ideas for how the planning should work can be accessed here, but we support a process that best reflects those involved.
  • Goals: At this juncture, we need your perspective so that our campaign that represents our membership base.  For this purpose, HIC members have created two documents to catalyze the discussion of the goals.  Links are available below.  We urge you to send us your ideas – julio@hic-net.org - and we will post them to advance the discussion.
  • Partners: To strengthen our collective struggle, sign on to the WSF´s Day of Action and Mobilization January 26, 2008 at www.wsf2008.net.

3. HIC 2006 Evaluation
[top]
  • Available: HIC’s 2006 Evaluation is currently available for all to see.  You can access it here.  In order to better respond to the challenges of a quickly changing environment in the age of globalization, HIC proposed an evaluation of its working approaches. Three external consultants evaluated HIC from July 2006 and March 2007. The team consisted of Mr Frank Samol as overall coordinator, Ms Lake Sagaris as co-evaluator for HIC bodies in Latin America, and Ms Wakio Seaforth as co-evaluator for HIC bodies in Sub-Saharan Africa.

We want the evaluation to be accessible to all, and we have made every effort possible to be transparent about our work.  Nonetheless, few HIC members have accessed the document on our website.  Web-statistics show that only 23 members have accessed the document, nearly all accessed the English version. Resources are spent in translating organizational documents; unfortunately, only one user accessed the document in French, and one in Spanish.

4. HIC Postino
[top]
  • The HIC newsletter (Il Postino) is the daily free voice of any HIC member that wants to tell all subscribers about information, analysis, proposals, events, news, articles, calls and statements which are aligned with HIC and its purpose.
  • The newsletter reaches HIC members and also non-HIC members.
  • To avoid technical mistakes this newsletter is moderated.
  • You can now choose to receive each message sent through Postino (1) as an individual email or (2) you can choose to receive the list mail batched in a daily digest. By choosing the batch you would reduce the amount of emails you get daily from Postino without sacrificing the amount of daily information.
  • If you would like to receive the Postino mail in a batch, send an email to marie@hic-net.org with the subject “I want to receive Postino in a batch”.
  • If you would like to subscribe to HIC Postino click here.
  • Please inform us in case you change your email and we will update the data so that we can change your subscription to keep you informed.
  • Normally you should never send graphics, pictures and other files, which are risky and increase the email size: because this is a mass list serve and we have subscribers with slow access to internet, you should reduce the length of your messages (max. allowed 300 kb) as much as possible.  Only if it is absolutely necessary you should send attachments.
