The project’s overarching aim is the realisation of HIC’s fundamental mission, the creation of a world in which all can have safe, dignified, and peaceful habitat upheld by a strong civil society that fights for gender equality, equity, environmental sustainability, and the Social Production of Habitat (SPH). It seeks to ensure that governments of all levels recognise, defend, and implement these rights. The project also seeks collaboration and joint actions with the Global Platform for the Right to the City.
HIC is launching an Action Research as part of this project to improve knowledge of the local strategies its Members, allies, and affiliates in the African Region are using to campaign over issues of habitat and influence public policy on habitat issues.
Joining in this Action Research is a brilliant opportunity for both participants and HIC to better understand how campaigns and actions can best be supported going forwards, as well as a chance to share the challenges and successes of different approaches.
As well as helping participants, this research will combine with studies in Latin America and Europe to provide a vital resource for refining training initiatives, as well as input for best practice approaches to partnerships and relationships with local governments where possible. Together this will improve global efforts in campaigns and struggles for Habitat
Interested HIC Members will be invited to be interviewed via Skype, Zoom, or telephone. In most cases this would involve only a single interview, though follow up interviews with some can be considered if participants are willing and able to do so.
Participants must be HIC Members in the African Region, or representatives of Civil Society Movements and Grassroots organizations with an existing or evolving relationship with HIC Members. We’d be grateful if you can help us identifying these groups in your region. The time and date of these interviews can be arranged on a case by case basis.
It is important that interest is expressed as quickly as possible.
