Al Haq International Law Course

Al Haq Center for
Applied International Law is pleased to announce its international law course
for international post-graduate law students and legal researchers in Ramallah,
Palestine on 09-23 August 2015. 

The objective of the summer course is to help
students develop a coherent understanding of the human rights and human
situation in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) and will include
presentations by human rights professionals and discussions on key human rights
issues. The program provides a small group of participants with knowledge,
skills and insight, with emphasis on the practical application of human rights
in Palestine. 

The international law course is a highly interactive program in
which all participants are encouraged to be fully involved. The training
methods include lectures, group exercises and field trips. The working language
for the course is English. All participants will receive an extensive
electronic file of resource materials. 

Al-Haq is an independent Palestinian
non-governmental human rights organization based in Ramallah, West Bank.
Established in 1979 to protect and promote human rights and the rule of law in
the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The organization conducts research; human
rights education; prepares reports, studies and interventions on breaches of
international human rights and humanitarian law in the OPT; and undertakes
advocacy before local, regional and international bodies. 

Al Haq has a unique
international reputation for human rights education and research, earned
through decades of highly respected training of human rights professionals and
a commitment to the study and practice of human rights.

The fourteen-day course
will cover discussion topics including:

• Al Haq’s mandate and working methods;

• Historical overview of the
conflict;

• International human rights
normative framework applicable in the oPt;

• International humanitarian law
normative framework applicable in the oPt;

• Current human rights situation and
developments in the oPt;

• Selected UN resolutions, case law
and legal reports on the situation in the oPt

• Available international
accountability mechanisms;

• Visits of and by numerous local and
international human rights organizations;

• 6 field visits to Jerusalem area,
Bethlehem area, Hebron area, Naqab-desert, Haifa and the Jordan Valley.

The international law course is
open to post-graduate law students, legal academics and researchers. 

The
program is free of charge and includes full board accommodation , hospitality
and travel expenses inside the oPt and Israel . Registration will close once
the course is full. The summer course can only accommodate a limited number of
participants. Applicants will be contacted when the selection process is finalized.
