About the project
FUCVAM is a federation
of housing cooperatives, mutual aid, and is the largest social movement, oldest
and most active dedicated to issues of housing and urban development in
Uruguay. In 2001 began a project of South-South Cooperation to support international
transfer FUCVAM proposed, which applies the key principles of solidarity,
democratic participation, self-management, mutual aid and collective property,
other countries in the region and the rest of world. With support from the
Swedish Cooperative Centre, government entities and organizations, FUCVAM has
transferred its proposal to 15 countries throughout Latin America, adapting the
model to local conditions in different contexts, establishing national
federations and networks and supporting local efforts to influence public

About
the Conference
The aim of the visit is to know in depth the approach
in terms of techniques, training methods and project management used in the
award-winning program. The exchange days will give participants the opportunity
to share knowledge and experience, join a community of professionals and get
in-depth knowledge of the key aspects of the draft South-South Cooperation. This
includes elements such as the process of transferring the housing cooperative
model for mutual aid to other countries, key aspects of the project and legal
framework, adaptation to local contexts and grassroots support for
implementation. Workshops and visits to cooperatives form the bulk of the
conference, offering the opportunity to discuss all aspects of the program and
meet those responsible for its success.
Two sessions will be held exchange, to meet the requirements of a diverse group
of participants, according to the contexts in which they work.

Session 1: 2 – 7 September , 2013
This session is aimed at discussing the trends and needs of sub-Saharan African
countries. Therefore, though we accept applications from all countries,
priority is given to those individuals or organizations working in the region.
This session will be in English and Spanish.

Saharan Africa
Session 2: 9 – 14 September, 2013
This second session will be aimed at discussing the trends and needs of the
countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. Therefore, though we accept
applications from all countries, priority is given to those individuals or
organizations working in the region. This session will take place only in
Spanish.

In both cases, the conference will be of particular interest to professionals,
representatives of community organizations, housing associations and networks,
NGOs and researchers involved in housing cooperatives, community initiatives
and / or knowledge transfer processes and expansion projects.
The BSHF cover the costs of meals, accommodation and internal travel expenses
for those selected to participate in the visit. It has limited funds for
scholarships available for those who require financial assistance to cover the
