Grace Anderson Kagisa is a cook who sells her goods in Dar es Salaam, the
largest city in Tanzania. She earns a modest income of 50,000 Tanzanian
shillings per month – an equivalent of $33 CAD. Grace used to rent a two-room
dwelling, which she shared with her husband, two children, her brother and
sister-in-law. Rent consumed her entire monthly income. Her husband’s similarly
low earnings went to other living expenses. Purchasing land or a house was far
out of reach, and mortgages for low-income individuals simply do not exist.
Then Grace heard about WAT Human Settlements Trust. Rooftops Canada has
had a long and close partnership with WAT-HST providing funding, technical
assistance and other support.WAT-HST gave Grace her first housing microfinance
loan to purchase a plot of land. This loan was quickly repaid and a second loan
allowed her to begin building her house. With the technical support from
WAT-HST, Grace is currently building a two-room house (inclusive of a bathroom)
for her family. She talks about the opportunities and possibilities to come
once her house is complete such as using the house as collateral to borrow for
her business. Grace plans on relocating the business in her house so she
doesn’t have to travel out so much and can spend quality time with her family.
Grace is also proud of the fact that she will be leaving something of high
value to her children. Grace says that WAT-HST enabled her to reach her dream
of home ownership one step at a time. She now talks about the future with great
enthusiasm and hope.

The Tanzania Building Homes, Building Lives campaign is
picking up pace smoothly. Wow we have raised more than $11,000! Thanks

Grace
Anderson Kagisa est une cuisinière qui vend ses produits à Dar es
Salaam, la plus grande ville de Tanzanie. Elle gagne un modeste revenu
de 50 000 shillings tanzaniens par mois, soit environ 33 $ CAD. Grace
louait un logement de deux pièces, qu’elle partageait avec son mari, ses
deux enfants, son frère et sa belle-sœur. Le loyer prenait tout son
revenu mensuel. Le revenu tout aussi modeste de son mari servait à payer
les autres frais de subsistance. L’achat d’un terrain ou d’une maison
était vraiment hors de portée, et les prêts hypothécaires pour les
personnes à faible revenu n’existent simplement pas.
C’est à ce moment
que Grace a entendu parler du WAT Human Settlements Trust. Abri
international entretient un partenariat étroit de longue date avec le
WAT, offrant une aide financière, une assistance technique et d’autres
formes de soutien. Le WAT-HST a consenti à Grace son premier prêt de
microfinancement pour acheter un terrain. Ce prêt a rapidement été
remboursé et un deuxième prêt lui a permis de commencer à bâtir sa
maison. Grâce à une assistance technique de la WAT-HST, elle construit
actuellement une maison de deux pièces (qui comprend une salle de bains)
pour sa famille. Elle parle des perspectives et des possibilités à
venir lorsque sa maison sera terminée, comme celle d’utiliser sa maison
comme garantie pour emprunter en vue d’agrandir ses entreprises. Grace
prévoit installer ses entreprises dans sa maison pour éviter d’avoir à
trop se déplacer et pouvoir passer du temps de qualité avec sa famille.
Elle est également fière du fait qu’elle laissera quelque chose d’une
grande valeur à ses enfants. Grace a indiqué que le WAT lui a permis de
réaliser son rêve d’accéder à la propriété une étape à la fois. Elle
parle maintenant de l’avenir avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme et d’espoir.

maintenant, nous avons recueilli plus de 11000 $! Grâce à votre

faire avant d’atteindre notre objectif de 50000$. Nous espérons qu’un
plus grand nombre d’amis et leurs familles nous aideront à dépasser

recueillons aideront des gens en Tanzanie à acheter un terrain et à
bâtir un logement permanent et des collectivités durables, les rendant
