Session on the challenges and perspectives on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the current challenging global and regional context

HIC

Conversatory “Challenges and perspectives on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the current challenging global and regional context”, dialogue and critical reflection among Latin American organisations and networks interested and engaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development about the challenges and perspectives for compliance in the current challenging global and regional context.

This session, organised by the Latin America Office of Habitat International Coalition (HIC-AL), the Sustainable City 2030 group, the Experimental Centre for Affordable Housing (CEVE) and TECHO International, has as a precedent the collaboration that since last year has been given for the organisation and implementation of two virtual regional workshops, held in June 2021 and February 2022, which had the purpose that its members and partner organisations -mostly interested in SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities- could exchange information, learning and experiences of monitoring, follow-up and promotion of the localisation of the Goals and Targets of the 2030 Agenda.

This session continues to explore methodologies for civil society – sometimes in partnership with local authorities and academia – to assess the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level, and to continue to promote their real implementation in territorial areas where they face various obstacles. However, these and other expectations cannot be addressed in isolation from the current critical global context and the particular challenges for the Latin American region, which raise a series of questions about the real possibilities of achieving the 17 Goals and 169 Targets of this Agenda.
