The World Social Forum and the Struggle Against Neoliberalism. Book Launch of Gustave Massiah’s: ‘The Strategy for the Alternative to Globalisation’

Date: 27 March, 11h30-14h.

Location: Room I109, WSF venue

The work of Gustave
Massiah is a very important work which gives the reader a basic understanding
of the two opposing views on the world economy, the sociopolitical forces
involved and the organisational challenges facing the World Social Forum.
Massiah is also a long time member of the WSF International Council. We have
been told by the media about the World Economic Forum which brings together the
Establishment to wheel and deal in Davos, Switzerland. Since the 1990s,
however, the world-wide movement which poses an alternative to globalization
has also been meeting in the form of the World Social Forum (WSF). What follows
is a great interest in this work by Gustave Massiah, a major actor over a
period of many years in the alternative movement who shows the many features of
its dynamics but also offers new perspectives for its further development and
growth. This book, translated from the French, looks at the WSF and offers
valuable perspectives for the future of the alter-globalisation movement
world-wide. There is also an insightful introduction by Immanuel Wallerstein. A
whispered translation should be provided. Black Rose Books is a 45 year old
international radical publishing based in Montreal, Canada. It has published
over 500 titles on issues including militarism, ecology, anti-capitalism and
anarchism and authors like Emma Goldman, Noam Chomsky and Murray Bookchin
amongst others.
