Call to Nominations

Bogotá, Atlanta, Harare, Louvain-la-Neuve and Manila

April 23rd, 2007

Dear Members of the Coalition,

In accordance with the Guidelines and decisions of the HIC Board, we have been invited to be a part of the Electoral Committee for the Coalition’s Presidential Elections.

It is our responsibility, as all members of the Coalition, to participate in these elections, in order to elect the person that will work intensely in the orientation of our work, represent formally the coalition, build bridges of understanding and collaboration between the different regions and committees, and consolidate the process of renovation of our Board and other directive bodies.

We would also like to draw your attention to the following crucial aspects for the electoral process:

1. In order to have the right to vote, our Coalition requires that all members have to be in good standing with HIC dues. We invite you to get in touch with the Secretariat (gs@hic-net.org) or your Focal or Thematic Coordinators in order to cancel HIC payments, for which you will have an extended window to pay, so as to be able to participate in the election. For further information, please click here.

2. For this electoral process, the Secretariat has implemented a blog allowing interaction between the members of the Coalition, the candidates, their proposals, the Secretariat and the Electoral Committee. You can also revise relevant documents and information related to the electoral process.

We encourage you to visit the blog, get familiar with its functions and possibilities and keep an eye on the instructions and proposals that rise therein. You can also participate in the blog by mailing in comments; however we incite you to participate directly.

Due to the unfortunate coincidence of early year dues payment and elections, the amount of members that are up to date in their HIC dues is slowly growing. Considerating this situation and conscious of the need to ease into the use and understanding of new technologies (blog) the Electoral Committee considers necessary to modify the electoral process´ calendar as follows:

Activity Date

Call to Nominations: 23 April – 3 June (6 weeks)

Campaigns: 4th of June till 24nd of June (3 weeks)

Voting: 25th of June till 22rd of July (4 weeks)

Appeal Process: 23rd of July till 16th of Sept (8 weeks)

As you can see, our objective is to have the most participation as possible. We also would like to invite you to nominate candidates, stating your motivation in order to add further discussion to the blog. With the same logic, we are asking the nominees to supply proposals and initiatives detailing how their programme enriches the development of the Coalition’s agenda in regional and thematic issues. They should also provide a small bio and their profile and priorities.

Sincerely,

The Electoral Committee, hicelections@hic-net.org
