The global campaign for the adoption of the Right to the City in the New
Urban Agenda was launched on July 2016 – a strategic moment before the Habitat
III Conference – to advocate for peaceful, just, inclusive and sustainable
cities, villages and settlements.
The campaign was based on two pieces 1) the petition “Global Call for
the Inclusion of the Right to the City as the Cornerstone of the New Urban
Agenda”, open for signatures from individuals and organizations, and 2) the
hashtag #SupportRight2City, which achieved nearly 5 million impressions on
Twitter during the negotiations of the final draft of the New Urban Agenda.

negotiators in NY to include the Right to the City in the New Urban Agenda
As a result, our mobilization on Twitter was mentioned during the
debates among the States’ permanent missions while the final draft was being
negotiated in New York. This was important to make sure that the Right to the
city was adopted at the core of the New Urban Agenda.
Now we need to make sure that States and governments everywhere will
take the Right tothe City further into local policies and legislations. You can
find our online petition, as well as more information, videos and articles on
the Right to the City on our campaign’s website globalcallright2city.org.
