the up-coming round-table debate:

Smarter, Safer, Resilient and Sustainable Cities
Land Management and Territorial Development in the Global South: Challenges in
Urban Contexts

Cities are home to more than half of the world’s population. Urbanization rates
in the global South continue to rise as rural in-migration reaches new heights.
Cities are facing unprecedented demographic, environmental, economic, social
and spatial challenges. In the absence of effective urban planning, the
consequences of this rapid urbanization impact billions of people.

What
are the current policies and approaches towards urbanization? What are the
challenges in terms of housing, access to water and sanitation, safety and
pollution? How can effective urban planning contribute to mitigate negative
effects of rapid urban growth?

Speakers
of international governmental, non-governmental and private sector
organizations will address the topic:

– World
Alliance of Cities against Poverty
